Elements of the Garrison
Garrison Petawawa provides support services to meet or exceed the requirements of 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (2 CMBG) and lodger units. This ensures the ability to generate, employ and sustain effective and relevant forces in order to meet Canada's domestic and international defence objectives.
2 Area Support Group was established February 4, 1999 and is made up of operation units and Area Support Units throughout Ontario. The 2 ASG formation includes:
- Garrison Petawawa
- Garrison Toronto
- 2 Area Support Group Signals Squadron
The headquarters was relocated to CFB Petawawa from Toronto in 2006 and was officially stood up on September 28, 2006.
2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group can be traced back as far as the Boer War where its units won honours at Paardeberg and Leliefontien. 2 CMBG has participated in a multitude of Operations and taskings. Since 2003, members of 2 CMBG have played a key and instrumental role in Canada's deployment to Afghanistan. 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group will continue its roles in the defence of Canadian soil. Its soldiers will continue to participate in numerous peacekeeping missions around the world and will be available for emergency response missions in Canada.
