Statement / June 14, 2019 / Project number: 19-0106

June 16, 2019

Father’s Day is a time to acknowledge and celebrate everything that fathers do for us in our lives. The Army Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Stu Hartnell, and I are proud to recognize all the fathers who serve in the Army, work for the Army as civilians, or are the spouses of military members.

Fathers in today’s military act with passion and purpose and are excellent role models for us to follow. The characteristics of strength, courage, compassion and resilience which they exhibit, help us to grow as individuals and as an institution.

Whether serving at home or abroad, in uniform or not, the role of fathers is challenging but very rewarding. To balance work and home life, fathers strive to be adaptable and flexible so that they may handle whatever comes their way.

Even though the world is fast-paced and schedules can be very busy, it is important to set time aside this Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day; therefore, I invite every member of the Canadian Army team to join me, along with Chief Warrant Officer Hartnell, in celebrating the hard work, care, and love that fathers constantly provide in our daily lives.

I wish you all a wonderful Father’s Day.

Lieutenant-General Jean-Marc Lanthier
Commander Canadian Army

Chief Warrant Officer Stu Hartnell
