First Guard Mount on Parliament Hill of 2017 postponed to July 10th

Media should be aware that the First Guard Mount ceremony of the 2017 summer tourist season has been delayed due to  unexpected reparations on Parliament Hill following  Canada Day celebrations. Media are now invited to attend the first Guard Mount on the East Lawn of Parliament Hill on Monday,, July 10th, at 10 a.m.

This event is performed by the Ceremonial Guard, a composite military unit of the Canadian Armed Forces. Recognized by their distinctive red tunic and bearskin hats of the Governor General’s Foot Guards of Ottawa and the Canadian Grenadier Guards of Montreal, the Ceremonial Guard is an icon of Ottawa and the Canadian Armed Forces.

This year, during the country’s Canada 150 celebrations, the Ceremonial Guard will be the face of the Canadian Army in the National Capital Region.

The Ceremonial Guard performs a variety of public duties and ceremonial activities in the National Capital Region. The 2017 season began on 25 June with the Governor General’s annual inspection of the Ceremonial Guard on the grounds of Rideau Hall at 10:00am. The 2017 season ends on the 25 August, 2017. In addition to the daily Guard Mount ceremonies on Parliament Hill, the unit performs hourly sentry duties every day at Rideau Hall (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
