Commander's Message / December 18, 2015 / Project number: 15-0214

We are coming to the end of 2015, and the holidays are here again. Chief Warrant Officer Guimond and I want all our soldiers to be able to take the time to share the spirit of the season with family and friends.

This has been another remarkable year for our accomplishments in service to Canada. Canadian Army soldiers have served with distinction in numerous challenging operations and exercises in Canada and abroad.

These include Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE, the Canadian Army’s pinnacle annual training event encompassing over five thousand participants, as well as a suite of Reserve exercises that take place over the summer months. Some 850 Regular Force and Primary Reserve members deployed to help the citizens of Saskatchewan battle devastating wildfires as part of Operation LENTUS and various sovereignty defence operations in Canada’s North leveraged the expertise of our Canadian Rangers alongside our troops.

Our soldiers are recognized the world over for their expertise, professionalism and collaborative spirit. NATO’s Exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE 2015 this year involved 36,000 troops from more than 30 nations, including 1,600 Canadians who contributed greatly to the success of this massive undertaking.

We remember those who will celebrate the holidays while deployed, such as our troops currently in Central and Eastern Europe, who are working side by side with our allies on Operation REASSURANCE and Operation UNIFIER. And we extend our thoughts and best wishes to all the others away from family and friends as this time of year, serving outside of Canada on various missions and deployments.

On a sunny Sunday in September, 25,000 people once again gathered at the starting line to run, walk or roll in support of our soldiers during our signature event in Ottawa, the Canada Army Run. We extend our gratitude to the Canadian public and the greater Army family for their support and enthusiasm.

We also offer our sincere thanks to our Army families, civilian employees and supporters – without their backing and personal sacrifice we could not do everything the Army does for Canada and Canadians. Thank you for all that you do every day to help keep our troops strong, proud and ready.

CWO Guimond and I wish all of you, members and supporters alike, a safe and happy holiday season. And all the best in the year to come.
